Students will go home today with their folder for the first nine weeks. This is a sample of your child's work from this unit and also a self-reflection sheet for students to fill out and have parents sign. Please make sure to look over your child's folder and make sure he/she returns it to school on Monday. Have a safe and happy Halloween!

Students should turn in study guides on Wednesday and will take a Science quiz on single-celled organisms and characteristics of living things.
There will be a unit test on Wednesday and Thursday in Math and will start rational numbers next week. *Please make sure your children are finishing two i-ready lessons each week. The end of grading period is 10/31 and report cards and team newsletters will go out on Wednesday 11/6. In ELA, students are continuing the novel study of A Long Walk to Water. Next week, we will read additional nonfiction articles that tie into the theme of the novel and begin the menu project based on the story. There will be a common district assessment on Monday, November 4. Ms. Tiffany McLendon will begin teaching the science classes for the team beginning next week. Math students have completed Unit 1 test. Test corrections will be accepted until Friday 10/18. Students will spend the next three weeks on percents. In ELA, students will begin a novel study on Linda Sue Park's A Long Walk to Water. "This dual narrative follows two threads--one unfolding in 2008 and one in 1985, with one hopeful message; that even in a troubled country, determined survivors may find the future they are hoping for." *PBIS Field Trip will be on Next Thursday 10/24. Students will travel to the AMC theater on Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd to watch Addams Family. Permission slips and pride tickets must be turned in to core teachers. Cost for the trip is $10. *THERE WILL BE NO SCHOOL FOR STUDENTS ON WEDNESDAY, 10/9. THIS WILL BE A TEACHER WORKDAY.
*LOCKERS WILL BE ISSUED TO STUDENTS BEGINNING THIS WEEK. PLEASE SEND IN $6.00 TO COVER TO COST OF THE LOCK. Math students will have a test on rations and proportions on 10/11. After the test, students will complete the first unit material with percents, mark-ups, mark-downs. ELA students will be reading Wandering Aengus, a poem by William Butler Yeats. Skills will include identifying and explaining the meaning of different types of figurative language in poetry and how the use of such language helps to develop the theme of a poem. Students will be given guided notes on Monday and are encouraged to study these notes throughout the week to prepare for the assessment on Friday. |
