Social Studies:
This coming week we will learn about the end of the Holocaust, but the continuance of Anti-Semitism and Genocide into our current day. This leads us to reflect on why we must, “NEVER FORGET.” The week will conclude with a reflective Virtual Field Trip to Yad Vashem in Israel. ELA: This week, students should view the recorded Zoom lessons posted on google classroom for review of material to be covered. (Figurative language, Theme, and Central Idea). I will also post links to the district-provided packet on classroom, as well as other supplemental materials and videos. We will read and annotate the poem, Speech to the Young, by Gwendolyn Brooks. Students should identify the different types of figurative language in the poem and how the language helps to develop the theme. We will also read the nonfiction text, Five Reasons Why Being Kind Makes You Feel Good, According to Science. While this link will be posted on classroom to print, if students prefer to complete directly on commonlit.org, they have that option as well, and it has been assigned on the site. I will begin hosting Google Meet sessions every weekday at 2:00 for individual classes who have questions about the material. The meet link can be found on the "stream" page of individual google classroom pages. Core 1-Monday, Core 2-Tuesday, Core 3-Wednesday, Core 4-Thursday If you have any questions about this, please reach out via email. SCIENCE: We will continue our study of “Weather” this week.
